To Be Continued Edition

If you haven’t figured it out by now then let me tell you the bad news— Amare in Bellum, in its current form, is dead.

January will mark the two year anniversary since the initial concept of Amare in Bellum. I won't sugarcoat it, though. We've made a lot of mistakes while working on this project. So let me be the first one to apologize for all of it.

We would like to thank everyone we've worked with and who has supported us these past two years. We may have never gotten off the ground, but the project wouldn't have been anything without all the people involved.

Many of us are still attached to the characters and idea behind AiB, though. And while I'm not going to confirm anything, there have been several discussions, but don't expect anything unless significant progress is made. It's a small chance, but it's because of that chance that I don't want to end this post on a depressing note but rather a hopeful one. This isn't the end of our work as a team, so until we have something else worth showing off, thank you for your support and we apologize that things didn't go as planned

Life in Marin/Ruben Edition

Hey guys, we’re back again with another blog post. Instead of just telling you how progress is going, we decided to have a little fun and tell a little about refugee life in Marin. Believe it or not, we actually spent a lot of time thinking this through. During our discussions about life in Marin (Which usually involved all of us telling each other how wrong everyone else was), we asked ourselves a lot of questions. Questions…. like “How do the refugees get by?” “Where do they live?” “Can they get job?” “Why is Sybil best girl?” and “Can they break away from the other refugees?” Well, we eventually settled on answers to all of these questions, so now that some time has passed and those elements have been flawlessly implemented into the story, we decided to share it with you. So without further ado, here’s some information about the life of the refugees in Marin.

Registration: This one is rather obvious. Regardless of whether they’re an escaped PoW, fled their country, were found half-dead on the battlefield, or were forced from their homes, all refugees must get registered. If they arrive injured and need medical care, it’s the first thing they do when they’re released. Upon registration, refugees are given a bag full basic essential, such as water, toiletries, a map of Marin, a sleeping bag, and tokens (see below). They are then informed of several places they may take refuge at. These places are marked on the their maps and are called “Camps”.

Campsites: When they first started fleeing to Marin there were several designated campsites for both Bahari and Palatian refugees. These campsites became increasingly crowded as time past, and eventually refugees started spreading out to other areas of the town such as the beach, downtown, and even some residential areas.

Because of the tension between their countries, both the Palaitian and Bahari stay in their own camps. Both groups run the camps in slightly different ways, but the basic setup is still the same. For example, all of the campsites are filled with tents that are donated by a non-profit organization. This insures that all refugees have shelter and a place to rest their heads.

But like I said, both groups run their camps in slightly different ways. Both Bahari and Palaitians run their camps in a way that represents their culture. For example, in the country of Rhen-Palait, it’s very common for its citizens to be close to everyone in their specific community. Because of this, Palaitians constantly have gatheings and feasts. This is represented in their camp, as most of the people who in live in the Palaitian camps eat together for every meal. Not only that, but they are encouraged to take part in their community in anyway they can. This can be done by taking shifts and guarding the campsite, setting up tents, or just by taking care of your fellow countrymen.

On the other side of the spectrum, you have the Bahari. The Bahari are traditionally reserved people with a strong sense of independence. Although they care for their fellow citizen, the sense of being and community is lost on them. Everyone is expected to take care of themselves  and not to beg for handouts. Unlike the Palaitian camps, there aren’t constant gatherings or meetings, and no one guards the camp, as each individual is expected to be responsible for their own property.

Tokens: Tokens are an essential part of refugee life, as it serves as a form of currency for them. When they arrive in Marin, refugees are given several tokens. This can be used to buy food, water, clothes, bathhouse access, and everything else necessary for survival. Several employers have volunteered to hand out tokens, and they can be earned by taking up temporary jobs around the town , like delivering newspapers, repairing buildings, and setting up tents. Select establishments scattered throughout the town take the tokens as a valid form of currency, but they are mostly used in the market place.

The Marketplace: The market has become one of the busiest places in Marin. Originally  just a regular street, refugees and locals alike have begun to set up booths there. A variety of items are sold at the market place, from spices, to cigarettes, to food. Because of this, more refugees have begun selling items they brought with them from their home countries and have also started growing crops in order to earn more tokens.

Traditional Jobs: While it’s very unlikely to happen, it’s possible for refugees to get traditional jobs. This is very rare, and has only happened a handful of times in Marin. However, unlike the odd jobs that refugees can temporarily get, these jobs pay their workers actual money (That being the official currency of Rhenish-Braque). If a refugee gets a traditional job, it opens a whole new world of possibilities for them, as they could leave their camps and rent homes, makeshift apartments at old motels, and not rely on tokens to feed them or their family.

Well, that’s about it for this section of the blog for now. I hope this shed some light on a lot of things and will help you get a better understanding of Marin and its inhabitants.

Now that we have that out of the way, it’s time for another side character introduction! The character we have for you today is one of our favorites and is actually pretty important to the story. That character is named Ruben.

Scruffy, collected, and always ahead of the game, Ruben is responsible for finding Vincent and bringing him to Marin. Having fled his country of Rhen-Palait, Ruben came across the carnage of the battle that had taken place while making his way to Marin. Discovering that Vincent was the only survivor, Ruben took the unconscious boy with him, effectively saving his life.

Being in his late 20’s, Ruben serves as Vincent’s surrogate older brother and helps him learn the ins and outs of Marin after he wakes up in the medical tent. While Vincent appreciates all that he’s done for him, Ruben’s personality occasionally gets under his skin, as he rarely takes things seriously and is a bit of a flirt. Regardless of this, Ruben always keep a watchful eye on our protagonist and makes sure he’s always taken care of for some odd reason… But because of his help he’s given him, Ruben could be considered Vincent’s first new friends since coming to Marin.

Well, that just about does her. But before we scurry back into our cave, we'd like to announce that we're looking for writers and editors. If you're interested in joining the project then please email syonsanteria@yahoo.com and/or editiondevelopment@gmail.com

Anyway, that's all for today. See ya guys later.

Arizona in Bellum Edition

Hey there, folks. Been a while, but we're still here. However, we have made a few changes to AiB that we think you should be aware of. You see, over the past several months we have grown bored with the trite and cliched setting of Amare in Bellum. It's something that's been done a million times before, and will surely be done a million more times. So after much discussion, we have taken it upon ourselves to... Tweak AiB.

We here at EDT are proud to present the new AiB—Arizona in Bellum!

That's right! We've gone ahead and changed the entire landscape of AiB! No longer does it take place in a dusty old refugee town. Oh no, it now takes place in the good ol' Copper State during the times of the Wild West!

Of course, because the setting has changed, the characters have to change to. They're keeping their names and their designs, but their occupations will be different. Let's take a look at some of their changes, shall we?

Amelia - Having grown up somewhere in the desert of Arizona, Amelia left her tribe to go the frontier town of Marin. Since her arrival, she has become a well-loved Deputy and is known to catch every crime in action with her big and bulky camera.

Sybil (The Aloof Arsonist) - Wanted for multiple counts of arson, The Aloof Arsonist is shrouded in mystery. With reports of a mysterious standing around in the burnt areas moments before it was engulfed by flames, the fiend always leaves without a trace. Except for scattered cigarette butts that is.

Julia - Julia is the daughter of the town prospector. Looking down on all inhabitants of the frontier town, Julia gets everything her cold black heart desires because her "pappy" is the richest man in town.

Vyra - There are only three certainties in the town of Marin: The heat, death, and the local bartender's cleanliness. Always washing the dishes and cups at the saloon, the bartender, Vyra, hates anything dirty. Unfortunately for her, she lives in the desert and lives in a place where showers are considered a luxury. Because of this, she tries her best to keep everything clean and tidy.

Sasha - Having lived in Marin her entire life, Sasha runs the ranch on the outskirts of town with her mother and sister. Spending her days, herding cows and taming horses, Sasha is a cowgirl through and through.

Vincent - Vincent is the main character of our story. He traveled to the town of Marin to find fame and glory as a gunslinger. How will he do that? By getting the bounty on the Aloof Arsonist's head. Things won't be easy, though, as he now has to deal with a new environment and the quirky inhabitants of the town.

Well, that just about does her. We'll have more info on this soon, but for now just hang tight and wait for more updates

Love,

Happy Valentine from your boy Material

Please enjoy to your hearts content and consider it my parting gift.

Valentine's Day/We Still Aren't Dead Edition

Roses are red. Violets are Blue. Our Dev Team isn't dead, we still love you.

In fact, we’ve been busier than ever. A lot of stuff has happened since our last update, so grab your booze and enjoy spending Valentine’s Day alone while reading about an in-development eroge, because we got a lot of stuff to talk about.

Act 1 is coming along nicely. The outline for has been completed for sometime, and while a few adjustments are being made, writing is going smoothly. With some of us even starting work on our routes. However, there is some heart wrenching news. Material Tire decided to break up with us and leave his spot as Julia’s writer, but he's still around in an editorial. That hasn’t set us back, though, as the details for Julia’s route have been written down for a long time, so it’s only a matter of tweaking her a little and having our new writer type it all out.

Speaking of tweaking, we’ve tweaked some of the girls’ designs a little. We haven’t changed their body types or looks (Don’t worry, Amelia is still chubby), but we have changed their clothes a little. This was done so they look less like tourists and more like they came from a different country. It’s nothing too significant, but we’re happy with it.

We also know what we want our backgrounds to look like now. We have a few made and also a few samples, but we haven't settled with a BG artist yet. Hit us up if you’re interested.

Next up we have the first and official introduction of one of our side characters. We here at EDT are happy to introduce Charlotte, Sasha’s little sister! A.K.A. the little ghost hiding behind Sasha in the Halloween picture.

Charlotte Beleren
Age: 10
Birthday: October 21
Hair: Brunette
Eyes: Teal
Height: 4'3”
Favorite Food: Burgers, but only if they don't have the tomatoes. Claims to hate fish, but she'll eat it if she knows that Sasha or her mother can't see it. Generally prefers sugary foods, like any kid.
Favorite Color: Purple, almost a violet tint. She likes drawing with it because “it stands out more than the others.”
Other information:
-        Sasha taught her how to swim. She likes to play Marco Polo with other friends, but only when she isn't 'it'. Is a bit of a scrapper, tends to get rough and has a strong tomboy streak, commonly picking fights with other children her age.

-        Has a fear of bugs, most of all bees and wasps. Strangely enough she isn't scared of spiders. “Mama told me spiders ain't a bug so I ain't a scared of them no more!”

-        Thinks fish are slimy and gross. Sasha frequently tries to take her fishing, but all she does is chill at the pier with Sasha while looking for things to do. Most of the time she tries to watch TV, but because of frequent power outages she either sits around and complains about how there's nothing to do, or she draws.

-        Goes to elementary school. There's only one in the town, and she shares a class with 30 other kids, at a school of about 60 other 4th graders.

-        Sasha always dresses her up in skirts and dresses, but she prefers shorts “like big sis.”

-        Isn't too conscious about the war going on. Understands that their neighbors are at war, but like most kids, doesn't think of it beyond people killing each other.

Also, here’s some Vincent concept art. We’ll do a Vincent Edition soon, but enjoy this for the time being.

Hopefully we’ll be introducing more side characters soon, so stick with us.

Well, that just about does her. But before you go, have some treats that the girls made to celebrate this occasion.

Happy Valentine’s Day, EDT.
